Episode 43 - Home Alone 3

It's that time again! Video Negative return to fill your sacks with plenty of Christmas cheer! Unwrapped and re-gifted this year is 1997's unnecessary Home Alone 3!

Featured on this episode: the logistics of getting your "thing" trapped by toilet seats, comparisons to an infamous 70s exploitation flick, the worst police force and FBI in cinema history and the results of the Worst Film of 2016 poll are finally revealed! Great fun for all the family, so roll a joint, sit back and get festive!

Episode 42 - Mallrats

The Vid Neg crew take a trip to New Jersey to review Kevin Smith's horrendously undercooked sophomore slump Mallrats. Open for business on this episode are rampant, wildly dated misogyny, some of the most uninventive filmmaking we've seen on the show and silly, scatological jokes out the wazoo.

Also: the most crowbarred-in (not to mention whitest) Hamilton reference you'll ever hear, how much Tim loved this film as a kid (to the point of copying Jay and Silent Bob) and Ol and Dan wax lyrical over their hatred of Kevin Smith himself!

And don't forget to cast your vote for our Worst of 2016 episode, not long til the polls close, so be sure to make your voice heard here: http://www.poll-maker.com/poll869740xBa9C482D-36

Episode 41 - Color Of Night

*Warning: the following episode contains Bruce Willis penis discussion. You have been warned.*
Our boy Bruce returns for his fourth appearance on the show, as we get under the sheets with his batshit insane erotic thriller Color of Night. Co-starring Sexy's Jane March, we discuss the world's most untrustworthy therapists, a script written by someone with no understanding of mental illness, the pointless colour-blindness of our leading man, and what film of the Willy man's oeuvre best describes his dangling member.
Plus, a VNPeep challenges us to get in 10 penis jokes over the course of the episode. Do we succeed? Listen and find out!
PPS: The voting is still open for our Worst of 2016 episode! Be sure to hit up the link here and make your voice heard: www.poll-maker.com/results869740x0648024c-36#tab-2

Episode 40 - Halloween H20

"It's Halloween, everyone's entitled to their 275th jump scare". The deadliest coven on the internet reconvene for their Halloween special, a review of 1998's Halloween H20! (Is that description great for the old SEO or what?).

We talk inappropriate reactions to PTSD, the Michael/Mike Myers conundrum, L(adies) L(ove) Cool J(ames)'s incredible erotic literature and Tim theories whether the Haddonfield slasher is actually a reincarnated cat. Plus, Myers takes a hellacious 50 foot spill off a church balcony through a table, complete with commentary from good old Jim Ross himself. No tricks, just treats on our scarily good Halloween episode!

Plus, we're getting an early start on our end-of-year Worst Film of 2016 episode! Like last year, we're putting it to you, the VNPeeps, to decide which film we'll look at as our final episode of the year. Episode 39 - The Lost World: Jurassic Park

Great Directors, Bad Films season 2 ends with a dino-sized bumper episode, it's Steven Spielberg's The Lost World: Jurassic Park!

Is this so-called "decent classic" as good as you remember? Probably not, as the gang get to grips with disappearing characters, Jeff Goldblum's non-heroic starring role, the most laissez-faire reaction to a T-Rex rampage ever and how John Hammond is the real villain of the film.

Plus things get sexy with a fan-submitted story that dulled some senses and heightened others. Plenty to sink your teeth into on this en-raptor-ing episode. Don't miss out!

Episode 38 - Highball

Unhappy hour continues and all the misanthropes drink for free, it's part two of our Great Directors, Bad Films trilogy! We're looking at Tim's pick, the no-budget, shot-in-six-days shitshow, Highball, directed by Noah Baumbach.

The recipe for this instalment? It's simple - a splash of terrible characters, a dash of awful camerawork, two shots of shitty storytelling and a jigger of the most painfully unfunny screenwriting this side of North. Don't forget to give it a cyanide-salt rim if everything gets too much for you.

You don't want to miss this one! Woeful depictions of mental health, wannabe-Richard Linklater dialogue, terrible 90s gay panic jokes and one member of the show gets very angry indeed. The strongest of strong language in this one, you've been warned!

Episode 37 - The Island of Dr. Moreau

Great Directors, Bad Films 2 kicks off with one of the 90s most infamous flops: John Frankenheimer's The Island of Dr. Moreau. A tale of deceit, hubris, and weird looking humanoids (and that's just the troubled production), the gang get to grips with Marlon Brando's enormous ego, as well as his vast waistline, Val Kilmer's prima donna demands, and the titular Dr. Moreau's choice wardrobe decisions. Plenty of insane behind the scenes stuff in this one, don't miss out!

Episode 36 - Suburban Commando

Perhaps time has mellowed them, or they're just feeling sorry for the shell of a man Hulk Hogan has become but when the Vid Neg crew take on the Hulkster's infamous 1991 comedy Suburban Commando, they don't have much to get angry about.

Rest assured though, we still take aim at the terrible Star Wars/Back to the Future references the film's obsessed with, Hogan's one-note wooden acting and the slack plotting that's just all over the place. Plus, The Hulk Hogan True or False Quiz returns to put Dan's knowledge of Sir Hulk of Hogan to the test, touching on voiceover work, penis length and much more. Plenty of strutting and promo cutting in this one, don't miss it!

Episode 35 - Mortal Kombat: Annihilation

Video Game Negative reaches its final stage, as the boys take on the incredibly awful beat 'em up sequel Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. Could this be the most formulaic film ever made? Would you believe $30 million dollars could produce "special" effects so laughable? How harrowing can a film that yells its own name be?

Plus, we read out your thoughts, opinions and experiences of the franchise, the film gets a startling comparison to a David Fincher film, and it comes down to a bloody, brutal game of Rock, Paper, Scissors to decide the next episode's film.

Episode 34 - Street Fighter: The Movie

The gang are back for round 2 of their Video Game Negative season, and it's a big one, the infamous Street Fighter: The Movie. A knockout or a defeat? Tune in to find out. Featuring a nefarious plot to restore the value of the pound, serial killer paintings, bad guy PR agencies and much, much more. Check it out!

Saturday 11 June 2016

Episode 33 - Super Mario Bros: The Movie

It was only a matter of time before the Vid Neg crew got to grips with one of cinema's stinkiest, the infamous Super Mario Bros: The Movie. Anger is always the order of the day on this show, but hoo boy, do the gang get riled up in this one. Their live tweeting was only a taste of things to come. Just what is this film? Why did the filmmakers turn one of the most beloved franchises into some weird Mad Max/David Lynch fever dream? What's with the portrayal of plumbing as some sort of action-packed, danger-filled endeavour? And why is this film nothing like the game? Fuck it, the hosts get seriously pissed off in this one. Don't miss out!

Saturday 21 May 2016

Episode 32 - Predator 2

You are about to witness the strength of street knowledge. The Vid Neg crew return to the City of Angels to take on 1990's Predator 2. A bit more discussion based than previous episodes (which means it's even less funny than usual), we tackle the racial undertones of Pred's character design, bemoan the lack of Gary Busey madness and Dan confesses his undying love for Bill Paxton. One character's choice of attire enrages an IMDB reviewer and we give a shout out to a fledgling indie film looking for you help. Episode 31 - Captain America

Seen Civil War? Liked it? Good for you, just be glad you didn't have to watch Cap's 1990 affair, the appropriately and inventively titled Captain America. Vid Neg's latest episode sees the gang focus their rockets' red glare on the film's misguided machine gun slaughters, Steve Rodgers' less than heroic (criminal) tendencies as the eponymous character, and a twenty minute sojourn in Rome - all as the world is about to end (or some shit). Also featured, an infomercial for history's greatest speeches, and is Sam, the conspiracy theorist-obsessed journalist, responsible for all of the world's tragedies? By the dawn's early light, don't miss out on this one!

Saturday 2 April 2016

Episode 30 - Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers: The Movie

Requested by Brett Millen and the Wrestling Rewind Podcast, the Vid Neg crew sit down to review 1995's piss poor Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers: The Movie. Firmly in the "nostalgia buster" category, any good memories of the classic TV show are dashed by 97 minutes of repetitive action, dull characters and shapeless plotting. What's with all the backflips? Why do the Rangers drag their heels when time is so clearly of the essence? And does walking off a ledge really constitute falling to your doom? All the hard-hitting questions answered in this mighty, morphin' episode!

Saturday 12 March 2016

Episode 29 - Barb Wire

The latest episode sees Video Negative take on Pamela Anderson's double D dud Barb Wire. After the semi-enjoyment of Kazaam, the gang are back in familiar territory with this one. Across the board in awfulness, this Casablanca clone gets wrapped up in uniformly terrible performances, exposition out the wazoo and a deceptively complicated story. Why is everything blue? Why does everything have to explained? How come even the antagonist sucks? Plus, the worst cinematic fist bump caught on film and three of the unlikeliest inductees into the Vid Neg Hall of Fame. Don't miss this one!

Back once again with the ill behaviour...

So after a long time in the wilderness, we're back on Itunes. Apologies for the massive inconvenience, no one is more glad to be back on than we are. To our patient subscribers and listeners, we want to say thank you and we hope that you continue to support the show. Please spread the word that we're back in our rightful place (i.e. not in Itunes 'New and Noteworthy' section) and be sure to check out the episodes you might've missed out on.

Saturday 13 February 2016

Episode 28 - Kazaam

Video Negative's first request episode of the new year sees them take on Shaq's second film Kazaam! Unprepared to watch the film alone, the gang view the film together and then give you their red hot take on this foul up of a film. Why does everyone scream in this film? What's with people falling from great heights and surviving? Does pizza make up for years of absenteeism, and what the hell is the deal with the cassette tape? Confused, unintelligible, needlessly complicated (and that's just our leading man), a hitherto unfounded love for Shaq does blossom through the episode however, so be sure to listen in!

Episode 27 - The Bonfire of The Vanities

New year, new Neg! The crew are back with their long awaited [citation needed] re-recording of Brian De Palma's complete misfire of a film The Bonfire of the Vanities. What happens when you take one of the fieriest, most acerbic and satirical novels an completely de-fang it? What happens when you cast Tom Hanks, one of Hollywood's most beloved faces as a total shit-heel? You get this film. Who cajoled Bruce Willis back into a recording booth? Plus, a run-down of Willis' most notorious on-set clashes. We fan the flames of everything in this one, so pull up a seat, pour a scotch and get toasty!
